Site-Supply Movement for a Multi-Site Construction Programme
Materials that arrive late stop a site; materials that arrive early block it. Sequenced 10ft and 14ft runs kept four sites supplied without either.
The brief
A contractor running four sites across North 24 Parganas and Nadia needed material movement that matched their build programme. Their previous arrangement delivered against the purchase order rather than the schedule, which meant material arriving weeks before it was needed and occupying space a working site did not have.
How we ran it
We started with access rather than volume. Each site was surveyed for what a loaded vehicle could actually reach, and that is what set the vehicle size -- 14ft units where the approach was open, 10ft where the lane narrowed, regardless of how much material was going.
Deliveries were then sequenced against the build programme. Each site had one named contact who could re-sequence on the day, because a construction schedule that survives contact with the weather is a rare thing.
What it delivered
Sites stopped storing material they were not ready to use, and the contractor stopped paying twice to move it around their own compound.
Sizing the vehicle to the site, not the load
The biggest truck that fits the material is rarely the right one.
- Site access surveyed before any vehicle size was committed.
- Deliveries sequenced against the work programme, not the order book.
- 14ft units on open approaches, 10ft where the lane narrowed.
- Single point of contact per site for re-sequencing on the day.
